In November 2004 S & A reported to the Football Association of Wales that the extraordinarily challenging specification issued by UEFA for hosting its prestigious Champions League Final in 2007 means that Cardiff, with the world class Millennium Stadium, is unable to bid to host the event. UEFA’s rigorous requirements for large areas of land for a hospitality village and media facilities adjacent to the Stadium rule out Cardiff’s City Centre Stadium. In addition, the complete re-building of Cardiff’s commercial business district is unlikely to be complete before 2008. These and other factors have meant the FAW will not be bidding for either the 2007 Champions League or the UEFA Cup Finals.
