First Base is the equivalent of an 'Editorial'. It is the opportunity for S & A to provide comment and provoke discussion on topical issues relating to leisure and tourism. This will be provided each month and we would welcome your feedback on the matters raised.

First Base 16: 3 September 2001

Date: 27/7/2004

The last quarter of the year has begun in a very interesting and stimulating fashion.... not only has it witnessed a range of anniversaries but it has also been marked by success for S & A securing several new contracts and Clients in Scotland (see News).

Celebrations all round, especially as we welcome to the Team Jean McLaren and Ian Solly (see Our People) and welcome back Mari Stevens from her year's travels.

To make this an even more enjoyable start to Autumn Somerset lifted the C&G cricket trophy on Saturday cruising to victory against Leicestershire and Yeovil Town's live Sky Sport game against Nuneaton saw them run out 2-1 winners.

So where's all this leading?

Well maybe its about the fact that the time has come for the 'small man'. Somerset for years the unfashionable club won their Final by a superb display by a solid journeyman cricketer. Yeovil, usurped last season by the millionaire sponsored Ru$hden, are favourites for the Conference this season with a team of solid professionals with no stars.
And, so to S & A... we are a small consultancy, we pride ourselves on offering solid independent advice and we do it from a modest base. Maybe, therefore, this will be the time when these 'underdogs' will have their day?
